About the name
Hakumei (薄明) is the Japanese word for twilight — the hour before sunrise and after sunset when the sky shifts from indigo to amber. The magic hour, when architecture looks its best.
Hakumei borrows its name from that light: a place to keep the images you collect, arranged in their best hour.
薄明 — twilight, when architecture looks its best.
What it does
Hakumei is macOS software for collecting, organizing and searching architecture and interior reference images.
New images, gathered for you
Register the publications you already read, and Hakumei brings in reference images from their new articles — on a schedule, if you like. Collection is built to be considerate to source sites, honoring robots.txt and pacing its requests.
Ordered by category, tags and color
Imported images are organized by category, tags and color — and everything can be adjusted by hand. Your references stay tidy, every time you open the library.
Search in plain language
Search your whole collection with a phrase like “a warm wooden cafe”. Narrow down by color, tags or designer, or follow similar images from any picture.
Everything stays on your Mac
Your images and your searches are handled on your own Mac. In the default configuration, nothing is sent to external services.
The copyright of collected images and articles belongs to the respective website operators, photographers, designers and other rights holders. Hakumei is a tool for organizing references on your own computer, for your own study and inspiration.
